Andy & Joy experiencing their own refuge on a beach in Florida.

About us. Andy grew up outside of Wichita, KS and Joy in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. Both grew up loving the outdoors and seeking true wilderness experiences. They met working as wilderness guides at a summer camp in Lake City, Colorado. They fell in love, both with each other and the San Juan mountains. In 2011 they married and settled in this unique, mountain town of Lake City. They have two sons who are joining in their adventures and thirst for life. As anyone who has boys knows, you can’t drink too much coffee!

About the coffee, the serious stuff. Ever since they met, they’ve talked about coffee and dreamed about one day opening their own coffee shop and roasting company. Joy has experience managing a small coffee shop for a couple of years. Andy has always enjoyed the subtleties and nuances of coffee. This dream was reawakened in 2018 and they were able to take the first steps toward a coffee business here at 8,500ft elevation amidst rural mountain life. They have begun with a roasting business proudly bringing you quality, small batch coffee in various roasts, blends and profiles. The dream is to have a shop location one day to serve Refuge to you one cup at a time!

About the name, Refuge Roasters. There is a passion and calling on their hearts to bring about a culture of refuge and healing to the San Juans. They believe it can begin with a cup of coffee, majestic scenery or a moment of refuge wherever you enjoy your cup.
